As a contemporary, realistic landscapist of Dutch landscapes
and oil sketches done on numerous trips through France, Italy, Germany, Portugal,
Spain and Ecuador, Koppelaar combines a traditional art of painting with contemporary
visual elements. His fine-art is characterized by an abstracting composition,
a lively brush stroke and a bright and colourful palette.
Often the artist escapes the turmoil of the city and puts up his easel on
the banks of a river, at sea on the beach, in a polder or in a forest.
His favourite subjects are the Dutch polder landscape, Dutch skies with their
characteristic cloud formations, riverscapes, dunes and beaches.
