Corry Kooy

Corry Kooy (Schoonhoven, 1960) studied at the "Vrije Academie" in Rotterdam. She also attended masterclasses by Gerard van de Weerd and the Britisch painter Tom Coates. The latter gave the following description of her work: “Her style is vigorous with compelling strokes of colour. It produces excitement to the eye. Working plein-air is her forte.”
It is Corry Kooy's first show at Gallery Van Lien.

Frans Koppelaar

Frans Koppelaar (The Hague, 1943) also has his first exhibition at Gallery Van Lien.
He studied at the "Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten" in The Hague. His main subjects are street scenes and landscapes. He is also known for his portraits.

Peter Smit

Peter Smit (Wognum,1957) studied at the "Academie van Beeldende Vormgeving" and at the "Rijksacademie" in Amsterdam.
He already showed his work several times in the Gallery.
Four paintings by his hand are incorporated in the collection Van Lien - Put.

Romee Kanis

Romee Kanis (Jutphaas, 1953) started drawing portraits of tourists in Spain and France. In 1989 she took up sculpting. That appeared to be her real passion.
Romee Kanis shows her sculptures at Van Lien's for the first time.

A remarkable initiative

The couple Van Lien - Put has a passion for the arts. Especially for visual arts. This passion resulted into collecting art. The idea behind their purchase policy was and is, that art history only exists by grace of continuity. Their collection exists thus mainly from works created during the last years of the twentieth century and more recent dates.

In September 1999 this private collection of contemporary art was categorised in a foundation. The works were exhibited in the Museum Van Lien, so that also other people could have the opportunity to enjoy the still growing collection.

Furthermore a galerie has been linked to the museum also . The development is clear: from housing a private collection, to what it has become: a cultural meeting place.

The Collection

In the collection Van Lien – Put one can discover three important elements. The first one consists of realistic, expressionist and figurative art. The second element is the abstract expressionism: abstract art, that is inspired mainly by a personal emotion and that is hardly geometrical. Sometimes those two lines meet each other. As a result a number of paintings in the collection is unmistakably related to both figurative and abstract art. The third element is, however, of a geometrical nature. The art works, that belong to this element are at present still limited in number.

All works show a strong visual language as an expression of the artist's feelings.

The collection includes at present approx. 350 works by more than fifty Dutch and Flemish artists.
