Painting a Bavarian
Landscape |
As a contemporary landscape painter my aim is
to capture the beauty that surrounds me. Since I love painting
it feels only natural to try keeping alive the great tradition
of Dutch landscape painting.
From time to time I have to escape the turmoil of the city to
search a quiet, secluded spot to put my easel. At the border of
the big rivers, at the seaside on the beach, in the polders or
in the dunes. My favorite subjects are polder landscapes, Dutch
skies, riverscapes, and beaches. The most important challenge
of en-plein-air painting is to grasp the essence of the moment
and put it on canvas in lively brush strokes and a strong palette
of tones and colors.
I never return from trips through France, Italy, Germany, Portugal,
Spain or even Ecuador without some oil sketches that I painted
alla prima. |
